Wildcat TV Mission Statement

The Wildcat TV Mission Statement

“Wildcat TV Homeroom Edition”, the student-produced television show at

Wheeler

High School

Ø      documents school activities such as sports, events and student life,

Ø      promotes school spirit,

Ø      provides a voice to the students and faculty of the

Wheeler

High School

community, and

Ø      provides on-site job training to future broadcast writers, camera operators, editors and producers.

Wheeler Video Course Syllabus

COURSE DESCRIPTION Prepares student to work in a broadcast video environment with an emphasis on scriptwriting, filming, editing, & job skills.

GRADE: 20% WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS – Treatments, Scripts, Essays 50% VIDEO PRODUCTION – Planning (10 pts), Work Habits (20 pts), Job Skills (20 pts), Teamwork (20 pts), & Product (30 pts) 10% TESTS on Scripting, Equipment & Software 10% PORTFOLIO: Includes written work samples, Video work samples and Resume with Skill areas 10% FINAL EXAM Multiple-choice questions. Review sheet given before exam day.

GENERAL RULES Sit in assigned seats daily. NO food, drinks, movies, gaming allowed in lab areas. *ALL PROJECT FILMING REQUIRES A PRE-APPROVED SCRIPT and a SIGNED PASS FROM VIDEO TEACHER. ALL portable equipment must be SIGNED OUT before use. WARNING: Do not film anyone without prior permission from him or her. Do not engage in or film physical stunts, vulgarity, references to drugs, sex or violence. NOT EVEN SIMULATIONS OF Weapons, Profanity, Smoking, Drinking or Drug-Use, or Sexuality are allowed in a school video. If rules are broken or the faculty complains about student behavior while they are out of filming out on campus, the student forfeits all filming privileges until further notice.

Video I COURSE SCHEDULE IN WEEKS 1st: Grading, Lesson/Training: Writing for Video Production 2nd: Lesson/Training: Video Editing and Music Composition Software WRITING TEST 3rd: Lesson/Training: Field Equipment Use 4th & 5th: Lesson: Advertising , Set Control Tips for Producers. Project: Commercial 6th & 7th: Project: PSA. EQUIPMENT TEST 8th & 9th: Project: Survey Interview with Reporter Intro. 10th & 11th: Project: Produce Music Video 12th: Project: Animation 13th, 14th & 15th: Project: Screenplay. Short Film. SOFTWARE TEST 16th & 17th: Project: TV Show Production: “Wildcat TV Homeroom Edition” 18th: Final Exam Review. FINAL EXAM: 50 questions multiple choice.

Video II & III COURSE SCHEDULE IN WEEKS: 1st & 2nd: Equipment & Software traning EQUIPMENT TEST / STUDIO TEST, Wildcat TV Season Opener, WCTV Host Auditions, 3rd-17th: Planning, writing, filming and editing of Skit Segment, Sports Segment, Spotlight Segment, & the Hall Segment and the Hosts. 18th: Broadcast Resume, Portfolio Due; FINAL EXAM.
