'How to Project' Instructions

Hi Most Excellent Students of Reading and Writing!

Your assignment is to teach our class how to do something. 

1) Think of something you do that you could teach us how to do.  (You will get more points for teaching us something none of us know how to do.) (20 pts.)

2)  Make a list of each step needed to successfully complete what you are teaching us. IMPORTANT:  Use your own words to explain each step!!! (40 pts.)

3) Choose one way to teach us: (40 pts.)

     a. Demonstrate it - bring all supplies needed.  If you are bringing food, make sure we have plates, forks, etc.

     b. Make a poster or ppt.showing each step. (Pictures  make it easier to understand.)

     c. Do both! (Extra points given)

This project is due on Monday, April 11th. It is worth 100 points. 40 points for an accurate list of steps in your own words, 20 for a unique idea and 40 for your presentation to the class.  Have fun!

R/W2 - Layered Curriculum Unit 2

Unit 2 Layered Curriculum Assignment

 

Essential Question:  What is a biography?

 

Standard 1 Entering:  Student will be able to associate people with their acts or contributions using visuals and texts.

 

Standard 2 Beginning:  Student will be able to identify influences on people’s lives using visuals and sentence level text.

 

To obtain the grade level of C, students will complete the following assignments:

 

1. Complete a Vocabulary paper and review each night for dictation tests
2. Read Biographies from Shining Star text and complete a chart stating the challenge of each person.
3. Complete homework assignments.
4. Write a narrative paragraph.  (More details later.)

 

Standard 3 Developing:  Student will be able to match cause of influences on people’s lives with effect. 

 

To obtain the grade of B, students will do all of the above and choose ONE of the following:  (Circle your choice)

1. Write a narrative essay – Use Inspiration to organize your paper.  (More details later)
2. Look up more information about 5 of the people we’ve read about in Unit 2.  You can use the Internet and books in the media center.  Write two more facts about each person in your journal and report to the class.
3. Write a “Biopoem” using the pattern given with Rosa Parks as an example.

 

 

Standard 4 Expanding:  Student will be able to interpret the impact of people’s lives on others.

 

To obtain the grade of A, students will do all of the above AND choose ONE of the following:  (Circle your choice)

1. Interview your parents to learn about their life and challenges they’ve had.
2. Interview a student at Wheeler with a disability, take their picture and make a presentation to the class.
3. Interview a school administrator about their life and challenges.

Dear Students,

This week you are going to write your first essay.  The essay will be about your school in your home country and Wheeler High School.  In order to write your essay, please know the following;

How many students in your home school?

How many and what kinds of classes did you take?

How did you do lunch? How much did it cost?

Did you wear uniforms?

Did you get there by bus? car? train? walking?

Do you have a picture of your school? a website?

Anything  else that is interesting.

Open House

Dear Students,

Next THURSDAY, August 30th is Open House at Wheeler High School. We have a special Open House just for our ESOL families. That means YOU and your parents or guardians. Please come at 6:30PM for food, information and to introduce your family to your teachers.
Interpretors are in attendance so all can understand the information given.
