I am concerned because only one student has gone to usatestprep.com and practiced!  (At least only one student has e-mailed me when she did it)  Remember you can get extra credit points!  Also, I promise it will help you with the End of Course Test and Graduation exam.

Several students have been absent lately.  Students who are absent never do as well on tests as students who are regularly present.  Please come to school!

Don't forget to go to Quia to practice! 

Family vocabulary

Our vocabulary test will be on Friday February 29, this week.  Next week our vocabulary test will be Wednesday, as usual.

Please practice using new vocabulary on Quia.

Next week each student will present information about his/her family.  Please look for pictures of your family that you can bring.  Maybe you could get a relative to e-mail you pictures if you do not have many in the U.S.

Don't forget to watch television in English!

Test II

The second major test will be Thursday, February 21.  We will review Wednesday.  Please be present!  During the holiday weekend, please go to the Quia site and play the suggested games.  Also, go to usatestprep.com and do some activities for extra credit!

First test

Announcing a test change!  The test will be Wednesday, January 30.  We will review Tuesday.  Please be present both days!  Students always do better when they are here for the review and scheduled test.  If you should be absent, it is your responsibility to schedule a make-up within the time allowed by Wheeler.

Second week

This week we have concentrated on classroom words.  We will have a vocabulary test on these words Wed., January 23.  Please continue practicing clothing and body part words.

During the weekend, watch TV in English and tell the class about it Tuesday, January 24.

There is a classroom vocabulary game on my  Quia site.  You will also find other games there that will help you practice your English.

First week

Welcome to Basic Intensive English I!

This week we have focused on vocabulary related to clothing and the 5 senses.  Please study your vocabulary.  Practice pronouncing the words at home and ask your teachers if you have any questions.

Welcome to U.S. History!  I am glad you are in my class!

The following are important notes for the first week:

1.  You should have turned in the signed course expectations page of your syllabus.

2.  The first grades in this class are from "The Explorers" handout and the Iroquois nation homework page.

3.  I know there are still some schedule changes happening.  Be sure you have the following in your notebook (in addition to the graded assignments)

          a.  European Explorers chart

          b.  Columbian Exchange notes

Welcome back!  I hope you had a great holiday!

Please be ready to focus and try your hardest during these next three weeks!  I've been trying to plan a variety of ways to cover necessary material (ask me about Halloween candy incentives!)  Come to class ready to learn!

For those students who did not choose to do homework during the holiday, be sure you have the packet finished by Wednesday, November 27th.

We will have a test this Friday, November 29th.  In addition to the review on Thursday, please play the three quia games described on my Quia page.  Also, use the link at the bottom of my Quia page to go to USA Test Prep.  Remember the password is  newton33 and the username is  wheeler  .Take some practice tests there.  There will be at least 10 questions on the test Friday from USA Test Prep.  It is great practice for your EOCT!
