HELLO from Mr. Clayton!

Welcome to my web site!

I teach Honors World Geography and Pre AP Social Studies at Joseph Wheeler High School.  I am very proud to inform you that I graduated from WHS in 1977, and I also attended East Cobb Middle (at that time called Junior High) School and Sedalia Park Elementary School.  I earned my A.S. and B.S. degrees from Kennesaw College (now Kennesaw State University), and my M.Ed. and Ed.S. degrees from Georgia State University.

I have been teaching social studies for twenty-eight years for the Cobb County School District.  I started teaching at Lindley Middle School.  I also taught at Pine Mountain Middle School and John McEachern High School before coming to Wheeler in 2001.

In addition to teaching, I have the following responsibilities:  Chairman, Social Studies Department; Lead Teacher, Advanced Learning Program; Sponsor, Social Studies Honors Society; and Co-sponsor, Leadership Club.

Please contact me at any time!

Honors World Geography

This course will be offered again Fall 2009. The class will study the various regions of the world.

Leadership Club

I am co-sponsor with Dr. Cheryl Crooks and Ms. Andrea Hawes.  We look forward to another great year.  The summer Leadership Club trip to New York and Washington was one of the best ever.  We are planning another trip for next summer.

We are VERY proud to be the largest club at Wheeler with over 400 members.  If you would like to join, you need to pay your dues - come by my room (123) in the Media Center before or after school.

There will be many opportunities for community service projects, and for fun school activities such as the homecoming parade.

There will be two Lunch and Learns each semester.  The dates will be posted later.

Pre AP Social Studies

I will teach this course again Spring 2010. The course combines World Geography and World History. The course is taken in order to move on to the next course - Advanced Placement World History. We study early civilications as well as the modern regions of the world.

Social Studies Honor Society

Mrs. Hajduk, Mr. Hullender, Mrs. Taffee, and I are pleased that Wheeler High School has started a Social Studies Honor Society.  As we plan for our third year, we hope to have a variety of activities including speakers, a service project, and field trips.  An end of the year celebration and awards ceremony (receiving an honor cord) is also planned.

The 2009-2010 officers are Brian Boda, president and Blair Erickson, vice president.

Our first meeting will be soon after school begins in August.  Watch for e-mails with more details!
