Biology Notes on Chapter 10- Meiosis; Homework

Friday: 9/26/08

Today we discussed meiosis- sexual reproduction in multicellular organisms.  A cell division that results in the formation of four genetically different haploid duaghter cells.  The attached notes were the focus of our discussion.   Students were also intorduced to the concept of genetic recombination leading to variation in living things.

Students took a short vocabulary/content quiz for a formative assessment.

Use the notes to review the information on Meiosis- the reduction division that changes diploid cells to haploid cells after two separate divisions.

Complete the worksheet on the steps of meiosis.  This assignment is due on Monday, 9/29/08.  You will be quizzed on the information in this woeksheet on MOnday 9/29/08.

Human Genetics

Attached is the guided reading handout for chapter 9: Gene Expression: How Proteins are made.  This will serve as a study guide for the assessment of materials from that chapter.  There will be no formal study guide given for mateials from chapter 8: DNA structure and Chromosomal organization, since the content material is very basic.  If you have any questions from that chapter, see me during class or email me.
